Project description

The goal of this project is to provide critically needed evidence on subgroup variations in severe maternal morbidity (SMM) risk among Black women in New Jersey. Disaggregating the population by nativity and ethnicity, we will identify factors associated with SMM within the different subgroups of Black women and assess differences in the timing and types of SMM diagnoses across subgroups through one year postpartum. Leveraging linked birth records and hospital discharge records from the iPHD Project will enable us to identify subgroups of Black women who may require additional perinatal support and/or interventions to inform ongoing efforts to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality in this population.
