Project description

The iPHD project, entitled “Prevalence of and Trends in Opioid-Related Hospitalizations in New Jersey Following Legalization of Cannabis,” led by Christine Ramdin, PhD and Ellen Kurtzman, PhD, will utilize sophisticated statistical methods and machine learning techniques to better understand the trends, characteristics, risk factors, outcomes, differences in costs/charges by stratified groups, and hospital trajectories of those who use opioids with and without cannabis and present to hospitals across New Jersey before the legalization of cannabis, controlling for legalization as needed. To accomplish these goals, we will combine up to five years of iPHD data (starting in 2018) from NJ Birth, Mortality, and Hospital Discharge Datasets. Understanding these presentations can better help us understand how we can form targeted interventions to improve outcomes for these patients.
